Electro-Dermal Screening is a computerized, non-invasive testing system that is able to measure the body's reaction to various substances. With the help of this electronic screening device, the body is able to effectively communicate information relating to various health issues. Electro-Dermal Screening is a simple, cost and time effective way to discover how well your body is functioning.

The test is done by applying minimal pressure to acupuncture points found on the hands with a small probe. The client is required to hold a small brass bar which is connected to the testing instrument. The testing unit reads and records the body's response to a particular substance at each point.

Basic anatomy explains that our bodies are electrical in nature. For example, if you brush your feet across a carpet and touch a metal object you would receive a shock. Or if you touch a hot iron, the pain is felt instantly because it's electrically transmitted along the nerves to the brain. Electrical messages are continuously being sent through the body to keep it informed as to what's going on. The EDS machine uses positive and negative electrodes to messure electrical currents in the body that change when exposed to various substances.

In terms of food allergies, the majority of adverse reactions to foods are not true allergies. Electro-Dermal Screening is able to detect food sensitivities that would not be identified as true allergens. Unfortunately, food sensitivities are not detected by standard testing. For example, a regular allergy scratch test measures a histamine response. The problem is that a great deal of reactions are non-histamine responses (stomach pain, fatigue, bloating, headaches, mood swings, etc.) and they often don't get picked up by a scratch test. Food sensitivities are not well accepted or understood; in fact, a person might not suspect that something like food could be contributing to their health problems. Food sensitivities can be confusing and difficult to understand because the onset of symptoms is often delayed and the reaction may not occur every time the food is eaten. Avoiding problematic foods (at least for a time) can be highly beneficial to one's health.
